Does the Aqua vacuum and mop at the same time?
No, and it's worth being clear about that. The Aqua does both jobs, but with two different floorheads. The MultiFloor XXL Electrobrush does the dry vacuuming; the AquaTwister washes sealed floors. Swapping between them takes seconds and no tools, and the display switches from suction levels to water levels on its own once it detects the wet head. So the routine is vacuum, then mop — one machine doing both, rather than one pass doing both.
Is it safe on hardwood floors?
On sealed hardwood, yes — with the caveat that Miele recommends the driest setting. Standing water damages wood over time regardless of the machine putting it there. The AquaTwister is designed for water-resistant flooring: tile, vinyl, laminate, sealed stone and sealed hardwood. On unsealed or waxed wood, stick to the Electrobrush.
Can I add wet cleaning to a non-Aqua model later?
Yes — the AquaTwister floorhead (HX-AT 10) is sold separately for $249 and fits every Triflex HX3. That said, the Aqua costs only $200 more than the standard HX3 and includes the floorhead plus pads, solution and tray. If you already know you want mopping, buy the Aqua.
How long do the pads last, and how do I clean them?
They go in the washing machine at up to 140°F and are tested for 100 hours of use each. A four-pack of replacements (HX-APU) is on our site. Rinse them after a particularly dirty job rather than letting them dry caked — same as any mop head.
Is there a dirty water tank to empty?
No. The AquaTwister uses a clean-water tank and washable pads rather than recovering dirty water, so there's no second tank to rinse out and nothing sitting wet between uses developing an odor. The trade-off is that the pads do the holding, which is why you wash them.
How good is it on carpet?
Genuinely good — this is where the Triflex separates itself from most cordless sticks. The Digital Efficiency Motor pulls like a corded canister, and FloorDetect raises brush roll power automatically when it senses carpet. For deep pile or heavy pet traffic, the CarpetCare roller brush (HX-CCT20) is worth adding.
Do I need the two-battery Plus models?
Depends on square footage. One battery gives up to 70 minutes in the lowest power mode — realistically less in Eco or High. If you clean a whole house in one session, or you have a lot of carpet running at higher power, the second battery is what keeps you from stopping to charge. Under about 1,500 sq ft, one is usually plenty.
Does the filter ever need replacing?
The HEPA Lifetime filter is designed to last the life of the machine — no recurring filter cost, which is unusual in this category. Tap it out over the trash periodically and rinse per the manual. A replacement finedust filter (HX-FSF2) is available if one ever gets damaged.
Will my HX1 or HX2 accessories still fit?
Most of them. Miele kept the battery, charger, finedust filter, hardfloor care tool and accessory holder compatible across the HX1, HX2 and HX3.
Which model do you recommend for most homes?
For a mix of hard floors and carpet with no pets, the standard HX3 does the job. The Aqua is the one we point most people toward if they have tile, vinyl or sealed hardwood — having the mop built into the vacuum genuinely changes how often you bother. Go Plus or Plus Aqua only if your square footage outruns one battery.
