The HealthMate Plus Junior is Austin Air’s compact purifier for chemicals and odors. It adds potassium iodide-impregnated carbon to the Junior filter, for VOCs, formaldehyde, smoke and household chemicals in smaller rooms like nurseries, home offices, apartments and small bedrooms.

How the HealthMate Plus Junior cleans your air

Air is drawn in through the 360° perforated steel housing and passes through four stages of filtration, all built into one filter. What sets the Plus Junior apart is its carbon: along with activated carbon and mineral media, it adds potassium iodide-impregnated carbon, which Austin uses to target chemicals and gases such as VOCs and formaldehyde.

Austin designs the filter to last up to five years under normal home use. At 21 lbs it’s easy to carry between rooms, or add the optional 4-wheel castor set and roll it.

  1. Large particle pre-filter catches dust, hair and pet dander.
  2. Medium particle pre-filter traps mold spores and pollen.
  3. Carbon and mineral media over 270 cubic inches of activated carbon, potassium iodide-impregnated carbon and mineral media for VOCs, formaldehyde, benzene, ammonia, smoke and odors.
  4. Certified HEPA 30 sq. ft. of HEPA, rated to capture 99.97% of particles at 0.3 microns and 99% at 0.1 microns.

What’s the difference between the HealthMate Plus Junior and the HealthMate Junior?

They’re the same size and use the same steel housing. The Plus Junior adds potassium iodide-impregnated carbon for chemicals, VOCs and formaldehyde. If chemicals or odors are your main concern, choose the Plus Junior. For dust, pollen, pet dander and everyday air, the HealthMate Junior is the better value.

What size room is the HealthMate Plus Junior for?

Austin designs the Junior models for smaller spaces such as nurseries, home offices, apartments and small bedrooms. For larger rooms, the full-size HealthMate Plus has twice the HEPA and nearly three times the carbon and mineral media.

Do I need the castor wheels?

No. The Plus Junior sits right on the floor and weighs 21 lbs, so it’s easy to carry. The optional 4-wheel castor set is handy if you plan to move it between rooms often.

Which replacement filter does the HealthMate Plus Junior use?

The Austin Air HealthMate Plus Junior Filter (FR250). Choose the white prefilter for a White or Sandstone unit and the black prefilter for a Black or Midnight Blue unit.

How long does an Austin Air filter last?

Austin Air designs its filters to last up to five years under normal home use. Each filter combines the pre-filters, carbon and mineral media and HEPA in one unit, so there’s nothing else to change in between. The Austin “it” is the exception: its optional VOC carbon wrap is designed to last about three months.

What warranty comes with an Austin Air purifier?

Austin Air gives every purifier a five-year mechanical warranty, which requires returning the warranty registration, and a five-year pro-rated warranty on the filter.

Has Austin Air been studied?

Yes. In a study published in Pediatrics in 2011, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital placed HealthMate purifiers in the bedrooms of children with asthma who were exposed to secondhand smoke. Those children had 18.5% fewer unscheduled asthma-related visits than children given a placebo unit. A Johns Hopkins study published in Indoor Air in 2014 found the HealthMate lowered nitrogen dioxide from gas stoves by 27% in the kitchen and 22% in the bedroom within a week.

Do Austin Air purifiers produce ozone?

No. Austin Air purifiers clean the air purely by filtration: pre-filters, carbon and mineral media, and HEPA. They don’t use ionizers or anything else that creates ozone.

Can I use my FSA or HSA?

Yes. Austin Air purifiers and replacement filters are FSA/HSA eligible. Depending on your plan, you can pay with your FSA or HSA card at checkout, or pay another way and submit your receipt for reimbursement. Some plans ask for a letter of medical necessity, so check with your plan administrator if you’re not sure.
