How the Austin “it” cleans your air

The “it” uses the same 360° perforated steel housing and certified HEPA as Austin’s floor models, scaled down to 11” x 11” x 8.5” and 12 lbs. It’s made for the air right around you: your desk, your bedside or a small room.

The HEPA filter is designed to last up to five years. If you choose the VOC Carbon Wrap, plan on replacing the wrap about every three months.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Austin “it”

Should I get the pre-filter or the VOC Carbon Wrap?

Both include the HEPA filter. The standard pre-filter is all you need for dust, pollen and pet dander. Choose the VOC Carbon Wrap if you also want to reduce odors, VOCs and chemical smells, and plan on replacing the wrap about every three months.

What size space is the Austin “it” for?

It’s a personal purifier for the air around you: a desk, a nightstand, a dorm room or a hotel room. For a whole bedroom or living area, look at the HealthMate Junior or the full-size HealthMate.

Does the Austin “it” have a screen or app?

No. It has simple mechanical controls for its three fan speeds, with no digital screen.

Which replacement filters does it use?

Austin “it” Replacement Filters come in two versions, HEPA with Pre-Filter or HEPA with VOC Carbon Wrap. You can also buy the pre-filter and the VOC Carbon Wrap on their own.

How long does an Austin Air filter last?

Austin Air designs its filters to last up to five years under normal home use. Each filter combines the pre-filters, carbon and mineral media and HEPA in one unit, so there’s nothing else to change in between. The Austin “it” is the exception: its optional VOC carbon wrap is designed to last about three months.

What warranty comes with an Austin Air purifier?

Austin Air gives every purifier a five-year mechanical warranty, which requires returning the warranty registration, and a five-year pro-rated warranty on the filter.

Has Austin Air been studied?

Yes. In a study published in Pediatrics in 2011, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital placed HealthMate purifiers in the bedrooms of children with asthma who were exposed to secondhand smoke. Those children had 18.5% fewer unscheduled asthma-related visits than children given a placebo unit. A Johns Hopkins study published in Indoor Air in 2014 found the HealthMate lowered nitrogen dioxide from gas stoves by 27% in the kitchen and 22% in the bedroom within a week.

Do Austin Air purifiers produce ozone?

No. Austin Air purifiers clean the air purely by filtration: pre-filters, carbon and mineral media, and HEPA. They don’t use ionizers or anything else that creates ozone.

Can I use my FSA or HSA?

Yes. Austin Air purifiers and replacement filters are FSA/HSA eligible. Depending on your plan, you can pay with your FSA or HSA card at checkout, or pay another way and submit your receipt for reimbursement. Some plans ask for a letter of medical necessity, so check with your plan administrator if you’re not sure.
